System overview

 USB3.1 adopts Type-C for mobile devices, besides the legacy Type-A & Type-B.

Type-C has the following extraordinary features:
1. Reversible plug orientation & cable direction, with smaller size and longer lifetime (10,000 cycles).
2. Enhanced data rate up to 10Gbps, with direct support for HD video stream.
3. Enhanced Power delivery capacity: 3A for cables, 5A for connectors, with voltage up to 20V.
4. Backward compatibility for USB1.0, USB2.0, USB3.0. 
 
The above features of USB3.1 Type-C bring great challenges for testing, eg.: 
 
1. Reversible plug orientation & cable direction, increases the port redirection of the 4-port test equipment up to 40 times.
2. Enhanced data rate up to 10Gbps, brings the test frequency up to 15GHz.
 
Ascentest HSCT-C system helps USB3.1 Type-C manufacturers & test labs to meet the above challenges effectively. 
 
HSCT-C is dedicated fully automatic test system for USB3.1 Type-C cables. HSCT system is built upon the platform of Ascentest HSCT High-Speed Cable Test System. The system is based on the functions of Keysight E5071C (Opt. 4K5, TDR) and Ascentest MPS-HSCT Multi-Port Switch Matrix. The system automatically and accurately tests the Frequency & Time Domain parameters for USB3.1 Type-C cable assemblies, which greatly speeds up the tests and lowers the test cost.
 
HSCT-C is capable of testing the following cables/connectors according to the specification of "USB Type-C Specification Release 1.1":
1. USB3.1 Type-C to Type-C Cable Assembly
2. USB3.1 Type-C to Legacy (Type A/B) Cable Assembly
3. USB3.1 Raw Cable
4. USB3.1 Mated Connector
